The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Wednesday, November 4, completed an encroachment removal drive on a plot reserved for a BEST bus station on Swami Vivekananda Marg in Borivali East. The civic body evicted 27 commercial establishments operating illegally on the 3,400-square-metre plot.
The official statement from BMC mentioned, “During the drive, 26 of the 27 commercial establishments operating on the plot were evicted by the civic body.”
The land, located at Building No. 7B, City Survey No. 15, under Town Planning Scheme-II, was taken up for the anti-encroachment action by the BMC's R Central ward.
According to the civic body, the drive was carried out by the BMC's R Central ward. Around 70 personnel, including engineers and other staff members, were deployed for the operation.
The encroachment removal operation was conducted with the assistance of two JCB machines and four dumpers. Police personnel were also deployed to provide security and ensure the drive was carried out smoothly.
The BMC said the campaign was successfully completed, clearing the encroachments from the land reserved for the BEST bus station.
Mankhurd, Deonar and Chembur see major anti-encroachment drive
The Mumbai Suburban District Administration has reclaimed around 39.5 acres of government and institutional land, valued at approximately Rs 1,236 crore, through eight major anti-encroachment operations across Kurla, Mankhurd, Deonar, Mandale and Chembur, officials said.
The operations, led by Additional Collector (Encroachment Removal) Padmakar Rokade, targeted unauthorised commercial structures, scrap yards, godowns, shops and residential encroachments. The latest action was carried out on October 29, when authorities cleared around 8,000 square metres of commercial encroachments from land owned by the Lokshahir Annabhau Sathe Development Corporation (LIDCOM) in Deonar.
Deonar: 8,000 sq. m. of encroachments cleared
The operation took place on LIDCOM-owned land at Village Deonar, Kurla taluka, identified under City Survey No. 1/A/3 and Survey No. 93. The administration cleared nearly two acres (8,000 square metres) of commercial encroachments, with the land valued at around Rs 60 crore. The property has since been handed over to LIDCOM, according to the administration.
A senior official said Google Earth satellite images from 2000 showed that the plot was vacant at the time and had gradually been encroached upon.
The operation was conducted under the guidance of the Mumbai Suburban District Collector and led by Rokade. It involved the Deputy Collector (Chembur), Sub-Divisional Officer (Eastern Suburbs), Kurla Tehsildar and Revenue Department personnel. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) provided machinery and logistical support, while police personnel were deployed to maintain law and order.
