Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde rushed to the aid of a police inspector who collapsed while on duty on the Ganesh Visarjan day in Thane.
Shinde ensured that the cop was immediately rushed to a hospital for treatment.
According to an official statement issued by Shinde's office on Friday, Police Inspector Sanjay Nalawade was part of the Deputy Chief Minister's convoy during the Anant Chaturdashi celebrations in Maharashtra.
The cop had been on duty since morning. He reportedly felt dizzy and collapsed when the convoy returned to Thane after Shinde's visit to Pune.
Shinde had travelled to Pune from Thane after attending a scheduled programme at Tembhi Naka.
He had visited actor Nana Patekar's residence in Pune to seek darshan of Lord Ganesha before returning to Thane by helicopter.
When Nalawade collapsed near the helipad after Shinde's return, the Deputy Chief Minister immediately went towards him. Other police personnel had already placed Nalawade in an ambulance.
Shinde then instructed his convoy to take the ambulance to Jupiter Hospital in Thane.

According to the statement, Shinde later travelled with his convoy to the hospital.
Nalawade was admitted to the hospital, where doctors began further treatment.
Senior police officials, including Deputy Commissioner of Police Prashant Kadam and Traffic DCP Pankaj Shirsat, also reached the hospital after learning about the incident.

Doctors continued to monitor Nalawade and his condition was reported to be stable. Shinde also remained in contact with doctors over the phone to receive updates about the inspector's condition.
The Deputy Chief Minister also asked the hospital administration to provide all necessary treatment and not to be concerned about the expenses, according to the statement.
Incident comes days after another cop's death
The incident comes a week after police inspector Vijay Sangade, who was part of Shinde's convoy, died after suffering a heart attack.
According to the statement, Shinde and his colleagues had tried to save Sangade at the time, but he could not be revived.
Following Friday's incident, Shinde said that Nalawade's life was saved with the blessings of Lord Ganesha and that he was only an instrument in the incident.
Nalawade remains under medical observation and further treatment is underway.
