A hearbreaking scene unfolded on Monday as 34-year-old Mayank Satra was brought home in a wheelchair from the hospital to see his 34-year-old wife, Priyanka, one last time before her funeral. Priyanka, an advocate, was killed in a horrific road crash in Malad West on Sunday evening, while Mayank, who runs an imitation jewellery business, suffered serious injuries. The couple, residents of Malad, leave behind an eight-year-old daughter and a four-year-old son.

The incident occurred around 8 pm on August 30 at Mamledar Wadi Junction, Malad West. Mayank and Priyanka were waiting at a traffic signal on their Activa scooter (MH 02 CG 3240) for the light to turn green. An electric MG Windsor suddenly surged forward and rammed into them.

The atmosphere was sombre as Priyanka’s funeral procession left for the Malad Shamshan Bhumi on Monday. Relatives and friends struggled to hold back tears as an injured Mayank arrived in a wheelchair for his wife’s final darshan, leaving everyone present devastated.

Case registered, accused gets bail
Following a complaint by Mayank’s brother, Manthan Devji Satra, 35, the Malad police registered a case under Sections 106(1), 281 and 125(A)(B) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. The accused was medically examined and arrested by the police.

On Monday, the accused was produced before the Borivli Metropolitan Magistrate’s Court and sent to judicial custody. His lawyer subsequently moved a bail application, and sources confirm he was released on a R15,000 bond — unfolding on the same day her family bade her farewell.
