The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) conducted its Annual Anti-Hijacking Mock Exercise (AHME) 2026 at the CISF Airport Security Group (ASG), Navi Mumbai, on September 22 as part of an approved contingency plan.
Navi Mumbai Airport hosts multi-agency anti-hijacking drill
The force said in a post on X that the exercise involved a simulated scenario in which a hijacked aircraft landed at Navi Mumbai International Airport.
Personnel from the CISF, Navi Mumbai International Airport Limited (NMIAL), Navi Mumbai Police, Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF), Intelligence Bureau (IB), National Security Guard (NSG), airlines, medical services, Air Traffic Control (ATC), Krystal and the Bureau of Immigration (BOI) participated in the exercise, ANI reported.
The exercise was aimed at testing coordinated preparedness and the response of multiple agencies during an aviation security contingency.

The Aerodrome Committee was also activated as part of the exercise. It was attended by Milind Bharambe, IPS, Commissioner of Police, Navi Mumbai, and Sunit Sharma, DIG/CASO, ASG Navi Mumbai.
All concerned stakeholders assembled at the Airport Crisis Coordination Room (ACCR) of Navi Mumbai International Airport during the exercise.
The CISF said the successful conduct of the mock drill reflected the coordinated efforts of the participating agencies to maintain a high level of preparedness for aviation security contingencies, ANI reported.
West Bengal flags off 226 new firefighting vehicles
Meanwhile, in West Bengal, 226 new firefighting vehicles and equipment were flagged off on Wednesday, September 23, as part of efforts to modernise the state's Fire & Emergency Services.
West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari ceremonially flagged off the vehicles and equipment from Red Road. The event was attended by the Minister of State for Fire & Emergency Services, the Director General of West Bengal Fire & Emergency Services, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Department of Fire & Emergency Services and other officials.
According to the official release, the new fleet includes 198 mid-size water tenders with a 2.5-kilolitre capacity, 25 water tenders with a 6-kilolitre capacity and three 36-metre articulating water towers. The fleet has been procured at a cost of Rs 94 crore.
Rs 94 crore fleet to strengthen emergency response
The vehicles will be deployed across fire stations, particularly in densely populated areas, markets, industrial zones and other urban and semi-urban locations.
The state government said the move is part of a broader plan to strengthen its fire and emergency response system through technology, including firefighting robots, drones, hydraulic platforms and advanced communication systems.
State plans new fire stations, recruitment drive
Twenty-three new fire stations are currently under construction, while 10 additional fire station projects have been announced in the state Budget, according to the release.
A recruitment drive for 1,400 personnel, including fire operators, fire engine operator-cum-drivers and sub-officers, has also been proposed. The government has further proposed creating 2,500 additional posts.
Focus on personnel welfare and fire prevention
The government has also announced measures for the welfare of fire service personnel, including an allowance equivalent to 26 days' pay annually for permanent frontline personnel and an additional monthly allowance of Rs 2,000 for contractual Auxiliary Fire Operators.
The state has also announced modern barracks and housing facilities in Kolkata for fire personnel.

The broader objective is to strengthen the state's emergency response capabilities, improve response times and minimise loss of life and property during emergencies.
