Mumbai weather update: Rain eases today as IMD forecasts cloudy skies

After witnessing an intense spell of monsoon showers over the past few days, Mumbai on Sunday, July 26, is likely to get a respite from rain. As per the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the island city is likely to experience cloudy skies and no significant rainfall for the city.

The maximum temperature in Mumbai is likely to settle around 31.3 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 26.2 degrees Celsius, indicating warm and humid weather conditions amid continued monsoon activity across the city and suburbs. 

IMD issues alert for Thane 

However, the neighboring Thane district is expected to continue receiving heavy rainfall at isolated places. The weather agency has also warned of occasional strong winds reaching speeds of 50-60 kmph, with gusts up to 70 kmph, which could affect normal life in some areas.

The contrasting forecast comes after heavy rains lashed Mumbai and its metropolitan region over the past few days, leading to waterlogging in several low-lying areas, traffic congestion, and disruptions to suburban train and road traffic at multiple locations.

High tide warnings

As per BMC, the first high tide of the day is expected at 10.34 am, with waves reaching 3.72 metres, while the second high tide will occur at 10.07 pm with a height of 3.13 metres.

The low tide is scheduled for 4.49 pm at 2.27 metres, followed by another low tide at 4.07 am on July 27, when the sea level is expected to drop to 1.14 metres.

The IMD continues to monitor the evolving monsoon conditions and has advised citizens to keep track of the latest weather updates before planning outdoor activities.

Mumbai lake levels climb to 86.18 per cent

Mumbai's water stock received a significant boost after heavy rainfall over the past 24 hours, with the seven lakes supplying drinking water to the city collectively reaching 12,47,291 million litres (ML), or 86.18 per cent of their total live storage capacity of 14,47,363 ML, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Hydraulic Engineer's Department. 

The figures, recorded at 6 am on July 26, show an increase of 2.5 percentage points in water stock over the previous day. Four reservoirs, Modak Sagar, Vihar, Tulsi and Tansa, remain full or nearly full, while Bhatsa and Middle Vaitarna registered substantial gains following continued rainfall.
