Mumbai Police on Monday said that it has detained 37 Bangladeshi nationals who were allegedly staying in the city without valid documents.
The action was carried out by teams from the Crime Intelligence Unit-1 of Mumbai Crime Branch as part of a special drive against foreign nationals suspected of residing illegally in Mumbai.
During the operation, police officials carried out detailed verification of the detained individuals.
The officials checked their identities, citizenship details, travel records and documents related to their stay in India.
The preliminary investigation found that the individuals allegedly did not possess valid documents required for legal residence in the country.
Deportation process to begin
After completing the necessary legal procedures and verification, authorities said the process to deport the detained individuals to their home country will be initiated.
Police officials said deportation would be carried out as per established legal procedures for foreign nationals found to be staying in India without valid permission.
Cops monitoring illegal immigration
The Mumbai Police said similar operations against illegal foreign nationals will continue across the city.
Officials have appealed to citizens to share information about individuals suspected of residing illegally in their neighbourhoods.
Residents can provide information to the nearest police station or the Mumbai Police Control Room, officials said.
Senior officers supervise operation
The operation was conducted under the guidance of senior police officials, including Mumbai Police Commissioner Deven Bharti, Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Anil Kumbhare, and Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Krishnakant Upadhyay.
The operation was led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection-1) Navnath Dhavale, Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Jagdale, and other officers and personnel from various units.
