Fire breaks out at Bank of Baroda in Mumbai's Lohar Chawl; no injuries reported

A Level 1 fire broke out at a Bank of Baroda branch in Lohar Chawl's Mangaldas Market in south Mumbai late on Sunday night, prompting a massive response from the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) and other emergency agencies.

According to officials, the incident was reported at 10:52 pm, while the MFB declared it a Level 1 fire at 11:30 pm.

The blaze erupted in the approximately 2,000-square-foot first-floor premises of a ground-plus-one-storey building, where dense smoke had engulfed the area.

Senior fire officials, including the Divisional Fire Officer (DFO), Senior Station Officer (SrSO), and three Station Officers, rushed to the spot along with multiple firefighting vehicles, including one fire engine, one fire tender, two mini water tankers, four jumbo tankers, one aerial water tower tender, and one breathing apparatus van.

Personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, BEST, BMC ward staff, and the 108 ambulance service were also deployed to assist in the operation.

No injuries or casualties have been reported so far. Firefighting operations were underway at the time of the latest update, and the cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Eleven injured after fire breaks out in Jogeshwari residential building

In a separate incident last week, at least 11 people were injured after a fire broke out in the common electric meter cabin of a residential building in the Jogeshwari West area of Mumbai.

According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB), the incident was reported at 5:59 am on July 3, 2026, at Gomati Vaishali Chawl on Haji Juhu Road, Vaishali Nagar, Jogeshwari West.

Officials said that the fire was confined to the electric wiring, electrical installations and other materials inside the common meter cabin located on the ground floor of the ground-plus-six-storey residential building in Jogeshwari.

After receiving the information regarding the blaze, civic officials rushed to the spot and launched a massive rescue and relief operation, they said.

The firefighters quickly brought the blaze under control and successfully extinguished it at 6:18 am, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

Eleven residents injured

Initial reports suggested that two people had suffered smoke inhalation and were taken to hospital. However, an updated report from the Trauma Care Hospital confirmed that a total of 11 people were injured in the incident, including seven men and four women.

Hospital officials said that two patients with burn injuries were transferred to Cooper Hospital for specialised treatment, while the remaining nine were admitted to Trauma Care Hospital. All admitted patients are reported to be in a stable condition.
