Eknath Shinde admitted to hospital in Thane after health deteriorates

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde was admitted to Jupiter Hospital in Thane on Saturday after his health reportedly deteriorated.

According to sources, Shinde was reportedly experiencing severe weakness and had also developed a fever during the ongoing Monsoon Session of the Maharashtra Legislature.

Despite his health concerns, Shinde travelled to Thane to attend scheduled public programmes. However, after his condition worsened, all his engagements were cancelled and he was admitted at 3am to Jupiter hospital in Thane for treatment.

Sources said Shinde is currently in a stable condition and there is no cause for serious concern. He is undergoing treatment under the supervision of specialist doctors. An official medical bulletin from the hospital is awaited.

Shinde had been under considerable work-related stress over the past several days, which is believed to have affected his health. His close aides clarified that his health issues were the result of exhaustion caused by an intense work schedule over the past few days.

Further details are expected as the hospital and Shinde's office issue updates.

This is not the first time Shinde has been hospitalised for health-related concerns. In December 2024, he was admitted after developing a fever and weakness following an intensive election campaign and a series of political engagements. At the time, party leaders described the hospitalisation as a routine medical check-up, and he was discharged after evaluation and treatment.

On the political front, the battle between Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde has intensified in recent weeks. Eknath Shinde has continued to consolidate his position within the ruling Shiv Sena. Independent MLC Kiran Sarnaik recently joined the Shinde-led party as an associate member in the presence of the Deputy Chief Minister. His induction follows a series of political gains for the party, including the election of Sachin Ahir as Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council and the entry of several leaders from rival parties into the Shinde camp.
