Residents of Gokuldham in Goregaon East are facing growing inconvenience due to an increasing stray pig menace. A local corporator has alleged that over 30 pigs are being kept on a private plot but are left to roam freely, frequently straying onto roads and troubling residents and commuters. Residents have repeatedly raised concerns and lodged complaints over the nuisance caused by the pigs in the locality.
Action sought

Taking note of the issue, BJP BMC corporator Priti Satam visited the site. “An individual is allegedly illegally rearing stray pigs on a private plot in Gokuldham and feeds them every morning and evening. However, the pigs remain unattended through the day and frequently stray onto roads near housing societies, causing inconvenience to residents. Several residents have approached me with complaints. I have instructed the BMC to take necessary action and shift the pigs to the Deonar pig shelter,” said Satam.
Filth concerns
Locals claimed the plot has been embroiled in a legal dispute and has remained vacant for over two decades. Resident Sanjay Parande alleged that the poorly maintained plot has become a breeding ground for insects and mosquitoes, while pigs frequently venture onto nearby roads.
