The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has collected a fine of Rs 65,000 from seven establishments that were collecting waste in bulk from locations outside Mumbai and dumping it in the city, officials said on Friday.
BMC`s L ward, corresponding to Kurla area, imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on a company named Gaurav Caterers for dumping waste in the Mithi River near Sakinaka, after collecting it from Khar, on the night of July 30.
In a statement issued on Friday, BMC said, "A large amount of leftover food was thrown in the Mithi River near Sakinaka by Gaurav Caterers. After this came to the notice of BMC`s L ward, they inspected the area and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on Gaurav Caterers."
Similarly, a fine of Rs 65,000 has been imposed on a total of seven establishments for dumping waste from elsewhere between June 12 and August 1. These include IDFC Bank Limited at Ghodbunder Marg, Thane, Ashok Tower Housing Society at Marol, HDFC Bank at Vikhroli (West), Taximan at Kurla, Simran Housing Society, Godavari Housing Society at Brahmanwadi, and Imtiaz Line Depot, the statement said.
