In a terrifying incident from Maharashtra’s Palghar district, police have arrested three Bangladeshi nationals and rescued a minor girl along with a woman after uncovering a prostitution racket running out of a residential flat in Naigaon, Vasai, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The raid was conducted on July 26 by the Anti-Human Trafficking Cell, acting on a tip-off. Officers from the Mira Bhayander-Vasai Virar police force stormed the flat and apprehended three suspected agents on the spot, according to the news agency PTI.
According to Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime) Madan Ballal, the minor girl was being forced into the flesh trade. A woman was also rescued from the premises. An investigation is underway to identify others involved in the trafficking network.
A woman, aged 21, was also rescued from the premises, he said, as per the news agency PTI.
The three arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Khalid Bapari, Juber Harun Sheikh and Shamin Gaffar Sardar, all hailing from Bangladesh, the official said.
The rescued girl and the woman also hail from Bangladesh and had allegedly been trafficked into India and forced into the flesh trade, he said.
They have been lodged at a centre of the Rescue Foundation, the official said, reported the news agency PTI.
An FIR has been registered against the accused under various sections, including 96 (procuration of child), 98 (selling child for purposes of prostitution, etc), 143(3), 143(4) (trafficking of person) and 144 (exploitation of a trafficked person) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
They have also been booked under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, the police said.
12-year-old girl, woman from Bangladesh rescued from prostitution racket in Vasai, three held
Earlier, a 12-year-old girl and a woman from Bangladesh were rescued from a prostitution racket being operated in Naigaon area of Vasai in Maharashtra`s Palghar, officials said, adding that three people were held in connection with the matter.
According to the officials, on July 26, a joint rescue operation was carried out by Exodus Road India Foundation and Harmony Foundation in close coordination with the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU), Mira-Bhayander, led by of Police Inspector Devidas Handore under the supervision of MBVV Police Commissioner Niket Kaushik.
